Newfanglers was just approved for funding from the Ontario Arts Council for creation of our event in 2009! Tiffany applied in May to the Multi-Arts Projects Program and was most successful! This is going to allow us to make some great improvements to our overall appearance, and open up more fund-raising opportunities. Keep your eyes and ears peeled in the coming months for some wicked fun events, and volunteer opportunities. We’re thinking a battle-o-the bandes could be in the making. We’ll post some info about how you can get involved, or come out and cheer on your favourite musical someone, asap.

Artist Statement

Humans are an odd bunch of creatures. Fascinating in their seemingly overwhelming need to dominate the invironment in which they live. As one of these odd creatures, I feel the need to take a critical stance on the typical practices and cultural facts that govern my life. Through the creation of mixed-media, performance, and a wide variety of sculptural works, I interrogate contemporary social issues ranging from animal welfare to feminism to the social prohibitions that govern our interpersonal behaviour. In all of these works, it is my greatest aspiration to prompt thought in and discussion amongst my viewers that would otherwise perhaps not occur. Regardless of how purposely colourful gawdy or floppy-doop my pieces may turn out, in true Marxist style, they must always serve a purpose.

Artist Statement

Over the past year my practice as an artist has developed substantially to become more focused and concrete exploration of sculpture and installation. I draw pleasure from the complete immersion that is required of me when I ceatea sculpture, including the hands on approach necessary for its formation.

I am interested in working with re-used objects that I can salvage or buy secondhand. I find that living in such an industrial society, we often take for granted the resources available to us. We are constantly reaching toward the latest model, the most technilogically advanced and higghly efficient way of getting things done. As a reaction and contrast to this phenominon, I invest a lot of time in developing my art pieces and my process can be very meticulous and repepetive. This consuming practice can become just as essential to the piece as the final product and concept.
